SYNOPSIS
In 2011, Oriane left France to join Marreco, her Brazilian partner, in an alternative lifestyle in rural Brazil. Driven by the dream of creating an anti-capitalist utopia and building her own earthen house, she filmed, in first-person perspective, the challenges they faced during their seven-year journey. Animated scenes are superimposed over the filmed footage, symbolizing the couple’s dreams and anxieties. The backdrop is Brazil’s political situation and the collective, self-managed community within which the couple will attempt to find a way forward.
THE DIRECTOR
Born in 1987 in St-Nazaire, Oriane turned to documentary filmmaking while studying at the École Louis Lumière, where she directed Écrit dans la marge, a film about the Lycée Expérimental de St-Nazaire. She then filmed Puisqu'on nous envoie promener, co-directed with two friends, during a march by undocumented immigrants. At the same time, she led video workshops in Paris. In 2011, she moved to Brazil. She directed the web series Le Brésil, Marcio… et moi ? and began writing Château de terre.
