SYNOPSIS
Strasbourg
Under a bridge facing the European Court of Human Rights, Stefan has built his makeshift shack. It’s a four-square-meter space he’s lived in for nine years, ever since he left Romania for France. Nine years of precarious daily life and bitter waiting.
Upon his arrival, Stefan filed a petition with this famous Palace, in which he explains how he was dispossessed of his land in Romania. The petition was immediately dismissed. The immense Palace seems to have been taunting him ever since. But Stefan is tenacious. He protests. Until justice is served, he will remain here and defend his right to dignity.
It is from the garden he created that he draws his strength. Like a true horticulturist, he cultivates a multitude of magnificent flowers there, which he offers to the view of passersby.
"This film presents a very subtle metaphor to us about the beauty of life born out of struggle and the desire to preserve the integrity of the
individual.
Embracing formal limitations, this is a film that skilfully and slowly unfolds a narrative situated on the edges of society. With dignity and a poetic
transformative power, this finely tuned work deploys all of the most cinematic tools to create intimacy with the voiceless."

THE DIRECTOR
Gautier Gumpper recently directed two films: “Earth's sweet kiss” (2023) and “Stopover at l'Ilot” (2024). Although very different in their approach, these documentaries have one thing in common: they give a voice to people who have stepped outside the system.
From their unique perspectives, these protagonists offer a view of our world that challenges us to reexamine our beliefs and principles. “A l’impossible on est tenu” similarly invites us to see the world in all its complexity through the activist commitment of five protagonists determined to make a difference.
