SYNOPSIS
When I was twenty, I was told I had a fifty-fifty chance of inheriting a cancerous genetic mutation. A fifty-fifty chance is a bit like an imaginary illness. Then, I began to share my life with an imaginary being. Looking within my family, I explore the personal myths we create in absence of clear predictive medicine, while it is still groping its way forward. The uncertainty that these sciences seek to bring to light and the presence of fatal illness as a probability often bring me back to the same question: to believe or to know?
THE DIRECTOR
Elli Bensoussan-Dilly was born in 1993 and lives in Douarnenez. Initially intending to pursue research in social sciences, she focused on "home-based" anthropology, studying Western festive cultures.
Then, she developed a passion for documentary filmmaking while studying it during her master's degree at Lussas in 2020. Her graduation film, Maisons de sable (Houses of Sand), was selected for the Première Fenêtre section of Cinéma du Réel.
In 2022, she co-founded Cinéribines, a filmmakers' association that offers film and sound creation workshops in Douarnenez and the surrounding area. In 2025, she completed her first feature-length documentary, Prophéties à l’œil nu (Naked eye prophecies).
