SYNOPSIS
In Strasbourg, the organization L’Îlot offers about ten people the chance to move on from a long period of living on the streets and move directly, with no strings attached, into a shared apartment where they have their own private room.
Lucie, Jonathan, Fabrice, Alban, and a few other residents have gone from extreme precariousness to the security of permanent housing. They arrived there with their lives in shambles and still facing a host of problems to solve and vulnerabilities to overcome.
This film chronicles that very special moment when they must transition from being homeless to becoming residents, with the help of Léna, a young social worker endowed with extraordinary enthusiasm and conviction.
We immerse ourselves in this world that is at once touching, brutal, funny, and tragic...
THE DIRECTORS
GAUTIER GUMPPER
Gautier Gumpper (born in 1973 in Strasbourg, France), a producer, director, cinematographer, and editor, co-founded the company Ana Films. He has directed several short films that have won awards at film festivals. Since 2000, he has worked directly with filmmakers and technicians, getting involved in the “making” of the film, both in terms of content (collaborative writing, development proposals) and form (contributing to shooting and editing). Following Une vie de théâtre and Le doux baiser de la terre, Escale à l’Îlot is his third feature film.
PIERRE TOUSSAINT
In 2000, Pierre Toussaint earned a Master’s degree in Documentary Film Production from Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg. He then spent four years at the Maison de l’Image in Strasbourg, where he led audiovisual workshops and directed short programs for Canal Info Strasbourg. He is also involved in other audiovisual activities: notably, he serves as an instructor at the Marc Bloch High School in Bischheim for the film and audiovisual studies track and as a part-time lecturer in the Bachelor of Performing Arts program at the University of Strasbourg.
