SYNOPSIS
From morning to night, Syamak crisscrosses Strasbourg—always by bike. From the city hospital, where he works as an emergency room doctor, he heads to his office as the elected official in charge of housing, passing by a homeless shelter on the outskirts of town along the way. Then he dashes off to lead a meeting for a civic organization. Syamak is on all fronts. With the municipal elections approaching—in which he’s running on the Green and Civic Party ticket—the pace is picking up…
THE DIRECTOR
Writer-director, born in 1963 in Obernai. Master’s degree in ethnology from the University of Human Sciences in Strasbourg.
I taught filmmaking from 1995 to 2022 in the Film Department at Wissembourg High School, as well as in the bachelor’s and professional master’s programs in documentary filmmaking at the UFR Arts in Strasbourg.
From 2017 to 2022, I served on the audiovisual committee of SCAM (Civil Society of Multimedia Authors).
After studying ethnology in Strasbourg in the 1980s, I shot my first film, Anne, on my own with a friend who was a painter in 1993. With no money and just an HI-8 camera, I wanted to see if I was capable of making a film. I spent nearly six months following her as she worked and came to realize the depth of experience—and the challenge—involved in filmmaking. That marked the beginning of my cinematic journey, in which the people I seek to film help me understand life and the world. Since then, I have continued down this path, which keeps leading me to extraordinary people.
